Yes, my fingers can't stretch to play a tenor recorder.
For flutes you can get a curved headjoint as someone has mentioned, also you can learn fifes before which are lighter, and get the player used to how to play a flute.

I started on the Fife and It made playing the flute easier but now I find the flute easier to play

I think it was because the (rubbish) music company wanted to make as much money as possible, by getting people to buy new flutes. Also, the teachers were woodwind specialists, we got told to GREASE the flutes!! Noooooo, you'd never do that! It attracts dirt and makes the flute manky.
