Hey guys I'm going to make one thing clear to all of you thinking of posting on this board. You'll have spotted this is for the beginners (ie <Grade 2) so if you're of the higher grades be considerate - you may find playing easy but remember you were grade 1 once! IF THERE IS ANY DEROGATARY COMMENTS ABOUT SOMEONE'S ABILITIES THEN THAT PERSON WILL BE BANNED FROM THE SITE COMPLETELY. Understood? Good.

Flute, eh? I can't even make a sound out of one, let alone play anything...mind you, atm I wish I'd taken up flute - lugging a bassoon around isn't alot of fun, but you can put a flute in your pocket! Good luck with the exam!

If you can play grade 5 pieces, I think you will eventually improve the tone. But I honestly think you can get a merit, if not a distinction!!!

We'll be expecting 150/150 then! Out of all the thousands of exams taken each year, only a few manage 148+! Not sure about 150 though... Getting 150/150 means FULL marks in EVERYTHING! ...including aurals!...

thanks! i can play grade 5 pieces on flute but i dont get a very good tone on it... I talk from experience - @ G1 tone is WAY down the list of priorities for both the musician and the examiner - getting the right notes is usually good enough to get 60-70 in the pieces at least...

are you sure it isnt such a priority. but that fact that im doing grade 5 sax on the same day and accompaying shows that i am capable so i should be able to work t oget a good tone ...hmm..

yes but that was a complete fluke! all she said was is that major/minor, did it start loud quiet, did itend loud or quiet. even an idiot like me can do that! i found the sight singing easy as well. im ok at that for grades 4/5 but cant do grade 6 sight singing

I feel that by no means is Grade 1 an easy exam, if I took Grade 1 on the piano, I am sure just because I had can play the piano to Gr. 2/3 standard that I'd find it easy. Although Grade 1 flute seems easier to me now, I have to appreciate how hard it was at the time, and how much progress I have made.
