The blue scales book says 'separately and together' but so far no examiner has asked me for 'separately'. Does your examiner(s) do?

at grade 5 i think i got asked maybe 1 scale and 1 arpeggio separately. by the time you get to the higher grades though, you are expected to play them together.
in my grade 6 he didnt even say separately or together, he jsut expected me to play them together

What does this 'separately' and 'together' mean? I'm not dumb, I know what they mean in english, but how do you play a scale 'together'?

we are refering to piano, so separately would be one hand only , together would be 2 hands at the same time!

For some reason my left hand won't play on its own as well as both hands together. Since this is Grade 8, should I need to practise hands separately anyway?

Or you could play only on your left hand but move your right hand long with it (without actually playing anything), so it teases your brain into thinking both hands are playing together. That way your left hand plays as well as when they are playing together.

i can't remember what happened in most of my exams for some reason but i think i was asked one or two separately in grade 4 then i had to play all of them together in grade 5.

When I did grade 7 back in october she asked me to do the Ab major with my left hand, and something else. But before that I never had any separate

I think the examiners expect playing with both hands to be more difficult, so they ask more often to play those. But of course you should try as much as possible to play all your scales with separate hands and together

playing with left hand only is still harder for me. Anyway, I guess it's safer to learn separate as well, although I finished Grade 8 and so far never asked for separate hands scale.
