Which do you prefer?
I prefer composing, coz I hate performing by myself in front of people. It's like my idea of a nightmare, coz I dread it for weeks, then sort of look forward to it and start feeling a bit more confident, then get to actually doing it, be so paranoid about messing up, and then not actually enjoy it, which defeats the point of doing it really!
I like playing in band and singing in choir, but as long as I'm aprt of a group!
So, what do you prefer, and why?!

Well ...hmm. i do not like composing so i guess it will have to be performing!
i dont mind performing in a group, when im on my own im ok if its in a school concert or something, coz im used to doing about 5 solos lol but if its for a major recital then i get really scared!

Composing for sure - performing is far too nerve-wracking for me! If I were in an orchesta or some such I'd be fine (bassoonists are hidden behind the instrument) but I enjoy making my own music - a great feeling when someone hears your music and says 'that's good - who made that?' . I can't see how anybody would find performing better over composition...

Not only behind the bassoon but the celli in front... I ahve to sit at the front coz the conductor likes to show the bassoons off, next to the oboe and soon to join us, bass clarinet.

We don't have any bassoons. We used to, but she quit it after she did GCSE.
As far as basses go, we have 1 trombone (sadly!), a tuba, 2 cellos, and 1 of the cellos has started playing double bass, but it's not used in any ensembles.

There is another bassooist at our school but he's such an arrogant and ignorant little twerp that he got kicked out of orchestra! I'll be taking his place soon...:-)

I prefer performing, especially in a wind band. I like composing too, and enjoy the compositions I've written but I am better at performing.

i love performing. it is all i've ever wanted to do which i guess is kind of bad because then i woudn't perform my own music because i would be performing all the time and have no time to compose my music. Get what i'm saying?

It depends. If im performing in fron of huge crowds I dont get nervous, so performing would be the fave there, but I do in front of small crowds (im a freak i know). If I had the choice between performing in front of small crowds or composing, I would choose composition instead. Unless it was minimalism. Then I would run a mile.
