I would say yes,as there are a lot of people who just pass, but my mum doesn't think so! Although I wouldn't be pleased if I only got a pass myself as I got 3 distinctions and 1 merit! However, coming to think of it, a fail seems bad so is just scraping a pass (100-105 marks in practial, 66-70 marks in theory) still okay?

To be perfectly honest, in my opinion, a pass is a pass is a pass - merits and distinctions are bonuses. You should never be disappointed with a pass, even just scraping the 100 mark barrier. You also have to realise that the exmas get harder and harder, so, though a scraped pass at G1 is acceptable, for most it indicates that they need more learning time. At G6/7/8 however passes are expected, and anything above that is a bonus.

this topic can be for either practical or theory, so well done on your distinction for theory!

A violinist friend of mine got 100 on her G5 a couple of months ago...but that means nothing - Kayleigh is very good at violin.

It depends on what happens on the day though! You could mess something up you've never messed up before, and it could really throw you're confidence, or just mean you lost lots of marks for that section! Or you could just get really nervous in exam situations. I always think "come on Isobel play it right now, it's the only time you have to play it right" through absolutely everything I perform, which is why I probably get so nervous!
Like Kate, I agree a pass is the best thing that could happen at that moment in time, it's better than a fail, and if you get a merit, well good for you, and if you get a distinction then that's even better!

I think it is good that you pass with a pass and merits and distinctions are a bonus! I work very hard at getting a grade and come out with passes and I am pleased with that. I get annoyed when people say I could have done better when they haven't got a distinction.
(ps I have had too much chocolate!)

If people say that who are about your age, they're probably just being competitive! Or trying to weigh up their chances of how good they are compared with you!
Just ignore them, enjoy it, and you don't need exams to tell yourself that!
