lol Matt!!! ive always got reasonable marks for scales. the problem with piano scales for me is that i cannot paly them fast enough, and im not very good at arpeggios either! however i do practise them!my best mark for scales was 19 in grade 4 piano ive jsut started learning the grade 7 piano scales, and i have no idea how im going to get thme fast and good enough by june

I know it's easy, but it's boring. I don't mean I don't do it at all but I do it once a week at the moment. However for me that's OK because I already know all of them and I don't lose practice... Any better?

have you tried playing them in different styles and rhythms and stuff? that might make them ever so slightly more interesting!

it's working! but I can't think of many different styles to play it. currently I phrase it in groups of fours

Yes, for my Grade 7 Guildhall, you have to play them in a range of styles: wholetone, blues, pentatonic, diminished. Also in the syllabus it has examples of the rhythms

gosh in the past 3 days ive done about 7 hours of saax grade 8 practice. plus 5 hours of clarinet playing in band, my mouth is killing me

It all just depends on the motivation you have to practice scales. I have none, so i dont do well on them, but i dont think ive ever failed them. Its not very fair saing if someone doesn't pass their scales & appegios part of the exam then they deserve to have their instrument shoved...somewhere...poor tuba players...especially poor piano players...

well for piano i hate scales but i still practice them for grade 4 i got 19, and grade 5 -18. but i only got 16 for grade 6 eek
but for sax i lurve scales- so weird!
